I broke one of my guitar playing fingers, should I substitue to play some chords?

tenacityspanning аѕkеd:

Sο іt іѕ mу second guitar playing finger. I саn play manly chords, still bυt јυѕt υѕе mу pinky a lot. It іѕ hard enough fοr mу hands tο recognize chords without looking аt thе neck. I don’t want tο hаνе tο re-train mу hands once mу 2nd finger heals. Hеlр!!!!

i really dont think u will really have to retrain ur finger…i broke mine and i couldnt play my violin for a while but when it healed, nothing seemed different to me…but the guitar is awesome!!!

You should be ok. Just keep what you know fresh in your mind until it heals and then everything should be back to normal.

If not it will retrain a lot faster, as most of it is in ur mind. Its only the muscles in one finger that will need to adjust a little. You’ll hardly notice it.

Whatever u do, dont start playing a different way while its broken, or you really will pick up some seriously bad faults.
ie. you’ll retrain your hands to play a different way and will find it harder to use the other finger again once its healed.

Bottom line: Substituting for a different finger to play the chords will be much worse for your overall playing than not playing for a month and letting it heal.

Don’t worry, i had it worse than broken and the whole top part came off. I got it stiched and the positive part of the experienced, I strengthened my little finger.

I always used the pinky but now, because of the 2nd finger issue, I had to use the little finger a lot.

But, when my finger was ok, I could still use it like nothing happened. It stays in the mind and you never forget that fingering, What I hated was that I used to slip and use the 2nd finger and God, did it hurt everytime I used it by accident.
